A Budget-Friendly Mammoth Lakes Vacation

A family vacation (or any vacation at all, for that matter) doesn’t have to break the bank. There are so many things you can do in the Mammoth Lakes region that are completely free or cost very little. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Hit the Lakes

Any one of the area lakes can offer you a day full of fun! You and the family can paddle boat, sail boat, fish, kayak, canoe, swim, and more.

Different lakes offer different activities, so be sure to check them out first. For example, Horseshoe Lake is the only one where you can go swimming.

You can bring your own boat or rent from the lake marinas. You might want to call ahead to see what kind of “toys” they offer!

Take a Trail

For those who prefer land over water, pick one of the Mammoth Lake trails. As you hike or bike, you can explore the region’s natural wildlife and flowers.

Home Away From Home

Of course, we all have those fun things we do at home that we typically don’t think about doing while on vacation. But vacation is about spending time together or getting away from the routine of life. So we recommend these places, as well!

  • Booky Joint – An independently owned bookstore with books, games, puzzles, cards, toys, and more.
  • Mammoth Rock ‘n’ Bowl – Not just fantastic bowling, but also some great golf and a restaurant.
  • Minerat Cinema – There’s always time to take in a good movie and a bucket of popcorn!

Whatever you choose, be sure to bring a camera along for the adventure. You’ll capture not just beautiful scenery but wonderful memories!
